Not only is this the easiest handmade gift you’ll ever make, but it is also useful and makes for easy page marking when you get to a stopping point while reading your favorite book. Let’s make it!

Step 1: Fold Envelope

Start by gently folding either bottom corner of the envelope without creasing it.

Step 2: Cut a Rounded Half Circle

Cut a square half circle out of the corner as shown. Keep in mind the size of your book when deciding on a size for your heart.

Remember to keep your cut less deep at first, then feel free to adjust the size to your preference.

That’s literally all there is to it! You can leave it as-is or add embellishments. See below.

Step 3: Create Stitching Effect (Optional)

To make the paper heart look handmade you can paint on a stitched effect using a white chalk marker. Hashmarks or dashes work well for this and give it that added touch of whimsy!

Step 4: Attach a Ribbon or Twine (Optional)

To make your bookmark even more fun, consider adding a ribbon to the top. I added a fun buffalo check ribbon across mine at a diagonal.

Step 5: Add Decorative Touches (Optional)

Next, enhance the charm of your paper heart bookmark even further by adding decorative accents. Cut out smaller hearts, initials, or messages, and use low-temperature hot glue to attach them to your paper heart corner bookmark.

I added tiny buttons to the top of my ribbon to create a floral look. Be sure to use flat buttons if you decide to go with this idea in order to keep the bookmark as flat as possible

Step 6: Spread the Love

With your whimsical, but practical paper heart bookmark in hand, you’re ready to spread some love on Valentine’s Day.
