How to make a mesh ribbon bow

Making bows is a great way to add a personal touch to any gift, decoration, or craft project. While there are many different ways to make bows, using mesh ribbon is one of the easiest. With just a few simple steps, you can create a beautiful bow that will add a touch of elegance to any project.

Step One. Cut your mesh ribbon into strips

Cut each color of your mesh ribbon into 8″ strips.

Cutting White Mesh Ribbon

For this bow, you’ll need to cut 3-5 strips.

Step Two. Cut your coordinating ribbon

Cut a slightly shorter piece of your coordinating ribbon. I just eyeball it, but I’d say about a half inch shorter than the mesh ribbon.

Step Three. Roll the Mesh Ribbon into rolls

I know that sounds funny, but it’s so easy to do. The mesh already wants to roll up anyway. Simply roll the strips into rolls.

Step Four. Layer the bow

Pinching each strip in the middle, one at a time, criss-cross your mesh ribbon back and forth in layers until all the rolls are used.

Keep the center of all of the rolls tight between your thumb and hand.

Finally, add that coordinating ribbon strip to the top of the bundle you are pinching in your hand.

Step Five. Zip tie the bow

Zip tie the pinched bundle of ribbons in the center.

Making a bow is one of those things that seems a lot harder than it is. But with a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to make perfect bows every time!

And using mesh ribbon makes it even easier since all you have to do is cut, gather, and zip tie the ribbon around the center. BOOM!

Ways to Use Bows

There are a few different ways you can display your new mesh ribbon bow. You can attach it to a wreath, use it as a gift topper, use it on a candle, a tiered tray, or even hang it on your Christmas tree.

If you’re attaching it to a wreath, start by threading a second zip tie underneath the first one in the center of the bow to allow something to use to attach it to the wreath. Then fluff out the loops and tails to create a beautiful and full, fluffy bow.

If you’re using it as a gift topper, tie the bow around the center of the gift and then fluff out the loops. You can also add a bit of ribbon or string to the back of the bow so that it’s easy to attach to the gift.

For display on a candle, simply hot glue it to the front. Add the candle or even just the bow to a tiered tray for a festive look!

To hang your bow on a Christmas tree, start by tying the center of the bow around one of the branches. Then take a piece of string or ribbon and tie it around the back of the bow. This will create a loop that you can use to hang the bow on the tree.
