If you prefer to watch a step-by-step video tutorial on how to make a pool towel rack and two other easy flip flop DIYs, then watch the YouTube video below.

This video includes 3 Easy Dollar Tree Summer DIYs! The tutorial for this project is in the middle. Use the timestamps in the video description to navigate to each tutorial.

Step 1. Glue flowers to flip flops

Start by hot gluing summer faux flowers to the center of each flip flop. You can use whatever flowers that you like, but I went with pretty pink flowers.

You only need a dab of glue for the flowers.

Step 2. Attach letters to flip flops

I chose to add the word “summer” to my flip-flops, but you can choose any six-letter word that you like so you can put one letter on each.

Here are a few other six-letter summer word ideas:

  • TOWELS
  • SUMMER
  • BIKINI
  • SEASON
  • SURFIN
  • HANG10
  • BEACHY
  • SPLASH
  • SUNFUN

I used large sticker alphabet letters from Dollar Tree. You can also use letters that you cut with a cutting machine.

Even though the letters are sticky, I still added a little extra glue to make sure they were extra secure.

Step 3. Attach ribbon to flip flops

Measure the length of ribbon that you need to cover the thong area of each flip flop.

Use fabric scissors to trim the ribbon.

Secure the ribbon with hot glue under the summer flower to the end of each thong. I love how the buffalo plaid ribbon looks on each flip flop.

Step 4. Bend the door rack hooks

You will need to bend the door rack on each end at the “hook” part so that it lays flat. Pliers or wire cutters will work for this.

Step 5. Attach flip flops to the door rack

Now you want to attach the summer flip flops to the door rack. You can find really fun and colorful flip-flops at most dollar stores.

If you don’t have one close by, you can also find them for a couple of dollars at Walmart.

It’s best to add the glue directly to the wire rack and not the flip-flops. Be sure to press down on the flip flop and hold it for a minute or so until it is secure.

Three pairs of flip-flops fit perfectly on the door rack. I used two of the same size flip-flops for the end of the pool rack and a smaller size in a coordinating color for the middle.

It would also be a fun look to alternate the flip-flops in varying colors and designs.

Step 6. Hang and enjoy!

All that’s left now is to hang your super cute towel rack by the pool and enjoy your craftiness!
