It only takes a few supplies and the process is simple. My favorite thing about this wreath is that it will carry you from early Christmas through the entire winter season. In this blog post, I will teach you how to create your very own easy red bird Christmas wreath.

Supplies Needed to Make the Cardinal Wreath

• 18″ Dollar Tree Wreath Form
• 10-12 Dollar Tree Greenery Garlands
• (or an old plain greenery wreath if you already have one)
• 3-4 holiday sprays from Dollar Tree
• a few red berry sprays from Dollar Tree
• 3-5 faux red birds or cardinals (with clips is best)
• red wired ribbon for bow

How to Make a Red Bird Wreath

This is such an easy DIY and the steps are truly however you want them to be. Follow along and I’ll show you.

Step 1: Create the Base

The first step in making your own easy red bird Christmas wreath is creating a base for the wreath. If you have an old wreath that is solid green that will work perfectly.

If you do not have a wreath already, take a simple round wreath form and wrap greenery around it over and over until it is covered.

Step 2: Add Holiday Sprays

Once you have your wreath base ready, the next step is to add the holiday sprays. To do this, simply decide where you want them to go first.

I prefer to place sprays in three or four sections evenly spaced around the wreath or all in one spot on the wreath for a more dramatic effect. Repeat until all of the sprays are used.

Step 3: Add Any Additional Decorations

At this point, you can also add any additional decorations you like. Some ideas could be pinecones, holly, or ribbon to add an extra festive touch to your wreath. Whatever you choose, be sure to balance the colors and not overclutter your wreath.

I added a fun Merry Christmas sign to the wreath for an added interest piece.

I added red berries scattered throughout the wreath anywhere that lacked a bit of color.

Step 4: Insert Your Red Birds

After adding the sprays, it’s time to clip on your red birds. I use the same spacing rule for the cardinals as I do for the sprays.

You can add them by either clipping them on or if you do not have clips, use hot glue or floral wire.

If you’re using hot glue, apply a drop of glue on the bottom of the bird and attach it to the wreath. If you’re using floral wire, loop the wire around the bird and twist it at the back, then insert it into the wreath.

Step 5: Add a Wreath Bow

This is the fun part for me! I love adding bows! I have an entire tutorial on how to make the bow I created for this particular wreath HERE.

Wired ribbon is best for wreath bows. I have several other tips on making wreath bows HERE.

The placement of your wreath bow is purely up to you. I like to secure it with a zip tie either at the top, bottom, or one of the two sides.

I added this particular wreath bow to the bottom left-hand side of the wreath to create a sense of balance.

Step 6: Hang Your Wreath

The final step is to hang your easy red bird Christmas wreath.

You can hang it on your front door, above the mantel, or anywhere your heart desires.
