How to make christmas gift bag decor

This was one of those DIY’s that was so easy you’re actually nervous to see if it turns out cute. This project was also a great way to reuse some of my Christmas Amazon boxes creating a win-win!dollar tree christmas gift bag decor tag PIN

What you’ll need

  • Gift bag with something cute on it. I chose the one with a fun Christmas tag on it. It’s helpful if it is 3-D or raised with mounting tape like this one was.
  • Cardboard from an old box the size needed to provide a backing for the cutout from the bag.
  • Trimming of your choice.  I grabbed a scrap of cute black pom pom trim from JoAnn’s.
  • Glue gun and hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Optional ribbon, beads and berries

Steps for making Christmas Gift bag decor tag

  1. Remove the tag or raised design from the gift bag. If there is no raised option, simply cut out the design you want to use from your gift bag.
  2. Using the design as a template, draw out a sort of backing from the piece of scrap cardboard.
  3. Cut out the cardboard shape.
  4. Add the trimming to the cardboard piece with hot glue.
  5. Glue the cardboard to the back of the gift bag design cutout.christmas bag diy gluing tag
  6. Poke a hole into the design through the cardboard to create a place to thread a ribbon for hanging or just for looks.
  7. Thread the beads onto the ribbon.black and white buffalo check beads added

VIOLA! Instant Christmas Decor

This was a super fun DIY project for $1 and some scraps! The best thing was that I was able to keep the gift bag to reuse as an actual gift bag as well! Wow! Now that’s awesome.  This would look good as part of a Christmas vignette, tucked into a Christmas tree, added to an actual gift, laying on a tray, or placed on top of a plate of goodies as a hostess gift! The uses are endless.dollar tree christmas gift bag decor on christmas tree
