Why are they called s’ mores?

We all know what a s’ more is. We remember the gooey marshmallows, melted chocolate, and crunchy sweet graham crackers. The flavors and smells are instantly called to mind when we hear “s’ more,” but what does it mean?

Why are these delicious treats called s’ mores? Was toasted marshmallow cookie with chocolate just too long a name?

Actually, s’ more is a contraction that stands for “some more.” After this popular American treat was introduced at summer camps in the 50s, people realized they just had to have “some more” and the name stuck.

S’ mores are definitely a childhood rite of passage for many of us. I can still remember learning how to toast the marshmallows perfectly, marveling at the milk chocolate melting on my graham cracker, and licking the sticky goodness off my fingers afterward.

Can you remember the first time you enjoyed this campfire treat?

These days I try to avoid licking my fingers clean, but even now it doesn’t get much better than the sweet sticky goodness of campfire s’ mores. If you love the flavors in this childhood treat, you’re going to love this recipe!
