What is buffalo check?
Traditionally, buffalo check or buffalo plaid has black hashes on a red or white background.
According to wikipedia, the pattern got its name around 1850 when a designer at the Woolrich mill in Pennsylvania (who owned a herd of buffalo) copied a pattern known as “Rob Roy” in Scotland, named after the folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor.
“No. 5310-402 in the Woolrich middleweight fabric collection” became associated with lumberjacks, as those nearby in the Pennsylvania woods were the main customers for the woollen shirts that used it.
It became popular in mainstream fashion in the United States in the 1990s and 2010s.
why is buffalo check so popular?
The trend called buffalo check has been around for a while in the decorating world, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
This classic pattern which started out on flannels has made its way into becoming a staple of farmhouse-style design.
Now it has bled over into some modern designs as well.
The truth is this fabulous bold hash pattern can work with just about any style at all. Most everyone loves it, I know I do!
