Healthy and Crunchy Beet Chips

These beet chips are thinly sliced, seasoned, and baked until perfectly crispy. The natural sweetness of the beets shines through, balanced by a hint of salt, making them a delightful snack that’s both nutritious and tasty.

Ingredients

  • 2 large beets, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: seasoning of choice (such as garlic powder, paprika, or cayenne pepper)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Beets: Peel the beets and slice them thinly using a mandoline or a sharp knife. The thinner the slices, the crispier the chips will be. The thickness of the slices is crucial; thinner slices yield a crispier texture, elevating the overall snacking experience.

  • Season: In a mixing bowl, toss the beet slices with olive oil, sea salt, black pepper, and any additional seasonings you prefer until well coated. A sprinkle of sea salt enhances their flavor, while optional spices can add a personalized touch, allowing for experimentation that suits individual tastes.
  • Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the beet slices out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they do not overlap. Arrange evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spacing is key; overlapping slices can result in uneven cooking.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chips are crispy and slightly curled. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning ensuring that they emerge from the oven just right—crisp and inviting.
  • Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the chips cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a serving bowl.

Beet Chips in the Air Fryer

Instead of the oven you can crisp up your beet chips in the air fryer. Simply preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place your beet slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket taking care not to overcrowd the basket, as this will cause the chips to cook unevenly. Cook the chips for 10-12 minutes (turning them halfway), or until they are crisp and golden brown.
