Patriotic Home Decor from Dollar Tree Chopping Mat Crafts
If you've been around here for a while, then you already know I have a slight obsession with Dollar Tree chopping mats.
Seriously, these little flexible cutting mats might be one of the most underrated crafting supplies in the entire store. They come two to a pack, they're inexpensive, easy to cut, and surprisingly durable.

Today I'm sharing four brand-new Dollar Tree chopping mat crafts that range from seasonal table decor to patriotic home accents. These projects are simple, affordable, and perfect for using supplies you may already have on hand.

Create Decorative Plate Toppers for Holiday Place Settings
This first project might be my favorite of the bunch—and I still need help naming it!
The idea started with a decorative paper napkin and a Dollar Tree chopping mat. After tracing a dessert plate onto the napkin and cutting out four matching circles, I used those circles as templates for the chopping mats.

The secret is cutting the chopping mat circles slightly larger than the napkins. Leaving about a half-inch border creates a sturdy edge that makes the finished piece easy to lift from a plate.
Once the circles are cut, simply remove the extra plies from the napkin, apply Mod Podge to the center of the chopping mat circle, and smooth the napkin into place.
That's it!
The finished pieces create beautiful decorative accents that sit inside your dinner plates for holiday tablescapes, special occasions, or seasonal gatherings.

I love that they can be customized for every season. Imagine pumpkins for fall, Christmas patterns for winter, florals for spring, or patriotic prints for summer celebrations.
They're inexpensive, reusable, and add such a special touch to a table setting.
Make a Fabric-Wrapped Garland Using Dollar Tree Chopping Mats
This next DIY proves that chopping mats can become much more than kitchen supplies.
For this project, I cut the chopping mats into strips approximately seven inches long and one inch wide. Then I wrapped each strip with torn fabric strips, much like making a messy bow.
Wrapping the fabric diagonally creates a fun texture while helping the fabric go further. Once each strip is covered, the ends are secured with hot glue.
After all the pieces are finished, simply staple the ends together to form a chain garland.

The result is a colorful, durable garland that works beautifully for patriotic decorating, holiday displays, coffee bars, tiered trays, wreaths, or even kitchen cabinet accents.
What I love most is how customizable it is. Change the fabric colors and you instantly have a garland for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, or any season in between.

Unlike paper chains, these hold up year after year.
Create a Light-Up Busted Canvas
If you've seen a busted canvas before, this version adds a fun twist you may not have considered.
Start with a Dollar Tree canvas and cover both the front and back with decorative napkins using Mod Podge. Once everything is dry, cut the canvas into sections from the center outward, creating the classic “busted” effect.

Then roll each section back and secure it with hot glue.
The magic happens when you add a piece of Dollar Tree chopping mat behind the opening.
Because the chopping mat is translucent, it allows light to shine through from behind. By decorating the chopping mat with another napkin design and placing a battery-operated candle behind it, the entire project glows beautifully.
The effect is especially striking in the evening.

I used a sweet pig design for mine, but the possibilities are endless. Seasonal themes, patriotic designs, Christmas motifs, florals, snowmen, pumpkins—you could completely transform the look throughout the year.
This is one of those projects that surprises people when they realize it lights up.
Make a Patriotic Garden Flag
With America's 250th anniversary celebrations underway, I couldn't resist creating a patriotic garden flag using a chopping mat.
This project starts by punching holes across the chopping mat and weaving strips of red and white fabric through them to create flag stripes.
The weaving process is simple but creates wonderful texture and movement. Once all the strips are woven through, trim them to your desired length and attach a fabric star to the upper corner.
I used a denim star cut from an old pocket, which gave the flag a fun farmhouse feel.

The finished flag is lightweight, weather-resistant, and perfect for displaying on a garden stake near your porch, flower beds, or front walkway.
What I love most about this project is that it's completely customizable. You can create different flags, seasonal banners, team colors, holiday themes, or welcome signs using the exact same technique.

It's a great way to turn simple Dollar Tree supplies into something unique and eye-catching.
Why I Love Crafting with Dollar Tree Chopping Mats
Every time I create with these chopping mats, I find another reason to love them.
They're flexible but sturdy. They're inexpensive enough to experiment with. They're easy to cut with scissors, and they hold up much better than paper or cardboard.
Whether you're making table decor, garlands, wall art, or outdoor decorations, chopping mats provide a durable base that opens up so many creative possibilities.
Sometimes the most unexpected craft supplies end up becoming your favorites.
And for me, Dollar Tree chopping mats have definitely earned that title.
