Nautical Rope American Flag Coastal Decor
This simple step-by-step tutorial you can easily create with just a few supplies!
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Red plastic flag frame (Dollar Tree or similar)
- Thick nautical rope (natural jute and white cotton)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Assorted white buttons
- Starfish (or similar coastal embellishment)
Step by Step Tutorial
Step 1: Prep Your Base
Start with a the Dollar Tree flag frame — these are found in seasonal section of dollar tree stores. This will serve as the perfect base for your rope flag, offering structure while keeping your rows even. Or you can do this on cardboard or a blank canvas.
Remove the blue square with stars and the red and white tinsel leaving behind a blank plastic frame to work with.
Step 2: Apply the Rope Stripes
Using your hot glue gun, apply glue to one row at a time and carefully lay your nautical rope across trimming where needed.
Alternate between natural jute rope for the red stripes and white cotton rope for the white stripes to create a soft, beachy look. Continue gluing until all the rows are covered.
Step 3: Create the “Stars” Section
In place of the blue paper section, add all nautural jute rope.
Instead of traditional stars, use small white buttons as stand-ins for stars, gluing them into the top left corner of the flag where the blue field would typically be. Arrange them randomly or in rows depending on your preference.
Step 4: Add Your Coastal Accent
To really drive home the beach theme, hot glue a decorative starfish onto the button field. This gives your flag a unique nautical flair that’s perfect for any coastal or lake house decor.
Step 5: Display Your Nautical Masterpiece
Once everything is securely glued and cooled, your nautical rope American flag is ready to display! It looks stunning on a shelf, in a summer vignette, or as part of your patriotic porch decor.
This project is so easy and budget-friendly, but the final result looks like something you’d find in a boutique seaside shop. It’s the perfect blend of farmhouse charm and coastal elegance!
