How to Create a Coastal Decor Dough Bowl Using Christmas Ornaments

This project comes together in minutes and is the kind of decor that instantly makes your home feel relaxed and inviting—like you’ve just stepped into a sunny coastal cottage. Whether you live near the ocean or just want to bring a little of that coastal decor charm inside, this dough bowl display is a beautiful way to do just that.

Materials

  • Dough bowl
  • Parchment paper
  • Scissors
  • Sand decorative or craft sand works best
  • King of Christmas 15-Piece Glass Ornament Set Snowflake Blue
  • Glass bead garland
  • Sea glass or clear gems
  • Seashells or starfish collected or store-bought

Instructions

Step 1: Line Your Dough Bowl

  • Start by trimming a piece of parchment paper to fit the inside of your dough bowl. This helps protect the bowl from any sand or debris while also creating a clean surface for your arrangement. It’s especially helpful if you’re using a vintage wood bowl or one you want to keep in good condition.

Step 2: Add a Base of Sand

  • Pour a layer of sand into the lined dough bowl. You only need about an inch or two—just enough to cover the bottom and give the ornaments and shells something to “nestle” into. You can gently shake or tap the bowl to level the sand out evenly.

Step 3: Place the Ornaments

  • Now for the fun part! Carefully add the beautiful blue glass ornaments from King of Christmas. I like to cluster them in groups of 3 or 5 for visual interest, and vary the placement so that the different finishes (matte, shiny, and glittered) catch the light in different ways. These ornaments were originally designed for holiday decorating, but the soft aqua and icy blue tones are truly perfect for year-round coastal decor.

Step 4: Add Sea-Inspired Accents

  • Tuck in your glass bead garland sea glass, and clear gems around the ornaments. Let some of them peek through the sand while others rest on top. These little details add sparkle and texture, and help tie everything together with that ocean-inspired vibe.

Step 5: Layer in Seashells

  • Finish the look by nestling seashells or small starfish around the display. You can cluster a few together or scatter them evenly. This is a great place to personalize the arrangement with any beach finds you may have collected on vacation—or keep it simple with a store-bought set.
