Painting a black front door can give your home a touch of sophistication and drama. Black is also a very versatile color that can be used as a backdrop in a variety of ways, so you can really get creative with your front door decor.
- Painter's Tape
- Sanding Paper
- Caulk
- High quality paintbrush
- Rust-Oleum Door and Trim paint in Black
Clean the surface of your door from dirt and spider webs, etc. If you have any ornamental coverings as I did, remove them at this time as well.
Tape off the door handles, security pads, and any glass inserts.
Caulk any cracks or crevices that need repair.
Lightly sand over any rough spots as well as the dried caulk areas to a smooth finish.
Apply a thin layer of Rust-Oleum Door & Trim paint using even strokes in the direction of the wood grain.
Allow to dry (about 45 minutes to 1 hour) and then apply a second coat.
Remove painter's tape and reattach any hardware or ornamental iron pieces.
