How to Make a Paper Heart Bookmark for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and what better way to get crafty than by creating a sweet paper heart bookmark that's both functional and heartwarming? I'm excited to guide you through the steps to making this fun and thoughtful Valentine's Day craft.

Step 1: Fold Envelope

  • Start by gently folding either bottom corner of the envelope without creasing it.

Step 2: Cut a Rounded Half Circle

  • Cut a square half circle out of the corner as shown. Keep in mind the size of your book when deciding on a size for your heart.
  • Remember to keep your cut less deep at first, then feel free to adjust the size to your preference.
  • That's literally all there is to it! You can leave it as-is or add embellishments. See below.

Step 3: Create Stitching Effect (Optional)

  • To make the paper heart look handmade you can paint on a stitched effect using a white chalk marker. Hashmarks or dashes work well for this and give it that added touch of whimsy!

Step 4: Attach a Ribbon or Twine (Optional)

  • To make your bookmark even more fun, consider adding a ribbon to the top. I added a fun buffalo check ribbon across mine at a diagonal.

Step 5: Add Decorative Touches (Optional)

  • Next, enhance the charm of your paper heart bookmark even further by adding decorative accents. Cut out smaller hearts, initials, or messages, and use low-temperature hot glue to attach them to your paper heart corner bookmark.
  • I added tiny buttons to the top of my ribbon to create a floral look. Be sure to use flat buttons if you decide to go with this idea in order to keep the bookmark as flat as possible
